Thunder Plains Announces Revised Live Race Dates for 2025

Jan 17, 2025

Cheyenne, WY – Thunder Plains is gearing up for a groundbreaking year, announcing revised race dates for Wyoming’s first full-size horse racing track and tentative openings for their first OTB locations in Cheyenne.

In response to feedback from horsemen, and to avoid overlapping race dates with other tracks, Thunder Plains Park presented—and received approval from Wyoming Gaming Commission on—the following race dates for 2025:

  • Soft Opening: September 24–25
  • Grand Opening: October 3–5
  • Additional Race Dates: October 10–13, 17–19, 24–27

“We’re not just building a track; we’re creating a racing experience that Wyoming can be proud of,” said Ryan Clement, managing partner at Thunder Plains. “This extended timeline allows us to invest in a higher-quality, higher-caliber racing experience for our guests, as well as ensure horsemen have greater opportunities to compete this season.”

Horsemen can look forward to the stakes schedule and stall applications becoming available by March 31.

Earlier this month, the Laramie County Board of Commissioners approved Thunder Plains’ permit to open three off-track betting (OTB) locations at 714 W. 20th Street, 1734 Meadowland Drive and 1720 Cleveland Avenue in Cheyenne. These locations will begin opening in Q2, with official dates to come.

Partnered with 1/ST, North America’s preeminent Thoroughbred racing and pari-mutuel wagering company, Thunder Plains plans to instill many of the company’s industry-leading protocols and world-class products  into Thunder Plains Park and their Cheyenne OTB locations.
